ARTIST INFILL
Design Studio, Georgia Tech, Spring 2020, Instructor: Danielle Willkens
This project is a theoretical urban live-work infill in Castleberry Hill Atlanta, for two artists, a potter and a culinary artist. The pottery studio is embedded into the earth reflecting the potter’s medium. The culinary artists’ studio pushes out from the earth to allow quick access to a roof top garden and plenty of light and ventilation. The artists’ studios are made from terracotta, reflecting the earth and the artists’ mediums. A second structure on the north side of the site is made from lighter materials allowing the building to reach the height of the surrounding urban fabric. This structure is the artist residency at the base and then blends into an additional undeveloped 10,000 sq. ft to support further development and greater density. This project was developed through study models, and line drawings, diagrams, and renderings.
