BALANCED PAVILION
Construction Tech, Georgia Tech, Fall 2020, Instructor: Charles Rudolf
A project for a simple pavilion situated on a slope between two paths. Development began with a dynamic concrete retaining wall to hold back the site slope and create a place to stop and rest. The nooks of the retaining wall host benches, and the feeling of sitting on these benches changes as the height of the retaining wall changes with the angle of the slope. Three L shaped concrete members are cast on the site and tilted into place to rest between the slope and the pavilion floor. These members shelter occupants from the sun during the day and dynamically interact with internal lighting at night. The drawings for this design center around the formwork for the pavilion.
