Slow Regeneration is study in modular design responding to a formally industrial landscape called Artisan Yards in Mechanicsville, Atlanta. The project interacts with the only building occupied on the campus of industrial relics, a former syrup factory now a small apartment building. The immediate site is planted to slowly regenerate the soil as plants relieve toxins from the ground. Terraces are later built up to support a small urban farm which is given to the community as an educational platform. The built insertion begins at the terrace level with a farmers’ market, where food from the on-site farm and other urban farms in the city are sold. Above grade are 3 stories of residencies and studio spaces. The residencies can accommodate small families, roommates, couples and singles. The studio spaces are designed for collaborating artisans.
